Thegallantway won well over hurdles in a match at Bangor on seasonal debut. He starts chasing in a competitive race but has been jumping fences very well at home and will like today's ground. We're hoping for a solid clear round and each-way claims.

Captain Tommy remains a horse with plenty of potential as he showed in a similarly-competitive race over this course and distance two runs back. Right at the foot of this handicap chase, it would not be a shock if he came through late to pick off the leaders. Nice each-way price.  

Dock Road is not the quickest and while he's a nice horse you are never quite sure how they'll cope with it first time out. The favourite will be very tough on his smart Flat form but apart from him it's not a particularly deep race. Hoping for a nice start to his career.

Point winner Alaphilippe made a good start for us winning his bumper at Ffos Las. Stamina was his main attribute that day and the extra distance today and testing ground will be in his favour. Very confident he can make a winning hurdling debut.

Those Tiger Feet is not the easiest of rides and David had to be at his strongest to win on him at Exeter last season. It's a long way to send one horse but he needs soft ground and there are no suitable races down South on similar ground. Hopefully he will go very close.

What A Glance is owned by the family of my new pupil assistant Tom Britten. He's had one run in a point-to-point and pulled up not enjoying the soft ground. That's why we're starting him in an all-weather bumper at Lingfield. He's been with us for about a month and the work he's done has…

Drewmain Legend makes her seasonal return after having a wind operation in the summer. She went close first time out last season and this is not the greatest of races. Richard Johnson shouldn't be a handicap either so we hope she'll go well.

King Of The South is one of the horses we inherited from David Lanigan. He was gelded in the summer and makes his debut for us today. I think he might be on the right side of the handicapper and has done enough at home to run well. Each-way chances.

Project Mars ran very well when third in a competitive race at Market Rasen five days ago. He has won around here and as long as this hasn't come too soon for him he should go very close.

The Fresh Prince has been a nightmare to train suffering a succesion of issues mostly minor but he did have a tendon strain in 2018 which required a whole year off. He struggled in his two races - non-completions - last year and has since had another eight months off the track. He needs plenty…

Anemoi may begin his chasing career next week and we have pencilled in a few entries for him. He has been schooling fantastically well and it was great to see him win so nicely over hurdles after his long layoff. Big chance of a follow up.

Getaweapon is a likeable mare who won a West Country point early last year. She was a very good second in her bumper at Ffos Las and the winner won a novice hurdle at Chepstow yesterday. She's been pleasing us at home and should run a nice race today.

The now nine-year-old Younevercall sustained an injury at Royal Ascot last year and has had more than a year off. He has a big task off top-weight admittedly in a race he's won twice befotre, and he may have to be content with a place.

Malinello had decent bumper form last season especially behind Third Time Lucki who looked smart at Wetherby the other day. He's no slouch in his own right and we're expecting a pleasing first run over hurdles today.

Storm Goddess is nicely weighted. She ran well in a strong race at Cheltenham and will love today's ground. We'll ride her a bit handier and that should enable her to make the frame.

Oscar Rose had her latest race at Hereford fall into her lap. She often finds ways to get beaten and it might be asking a lot for her to make it two in a row. Place chances anyway.

Severance was a 90-rated stayer on the Flat and he ought to be ideal for jumping. He does jump well but he's been very keen at home and hard to settle albeit it's obvious he has plenty of ability. We're taking him to Carlisle as the stiff track might help him be less keen early…
