Applaus exceeded expectations when winning over course and distance on comeback when in truth the horses were only just getting going. He looks fitter now and as he will not mind the ground the 5lb rise in his handicap mark should not be beyond him.

Big Bad Bear had a couple of runs over fences but that didn't work for him so he's back hurdling today. This looks a good race and we'll find out whether the handicapper has his mark right or not.

Neverbeen To Paris is in good shape at home. Off his light weight, hopefully he can run a nice race and bounce back to form.

Sir Sholokhov won his only previous race in an Irish point-to-point. We had his wind operated on and now that is behind him hopefully he is ready to go. He's done plenty of work now and we're looking forward to him showing us some promise on this hurdles debut today.

The Retriever loves finishing second but both trip and track are ideal for him. He went very nicely in a gallop on Wednesday morning and while this looks competitive in terms of number of runners, when you delve deeper it's a poor selling handicap and few have real chances. Tequila Blaze is in good form for this return. She would have been fourth in a decent race at Huntingdon in February but fell two out and this is her first run since. She will enjoy the trip and ground and is at an attractive each-way price. Could be placed. 

De Barley Basket got off the mark in great style last time and should run very well again. He has problems with his wind but as long as he can remain in 0-100 or just above he should cope, especially on good ground. He's massive so big weights will not bother him.

We always thought Marsabit was all right but he's been a shade disappointing and we expected a better run last time after his gelding operation. He's dropped another 4lb after that and could challenge for a place.

Optimise Prime is a much nicer horse than his bumper run would suggest. Hopefully he is in better form now and should run a decent race although this is a hot contest.

Sometimes Always was a little unlucky to be caught late on at Ascot after a brave front-running effort. Carrying top-weight in a competitive handicap is never easy but he is probably the one to beat.

Desert Cat ran quite well on her handicap debut last week considering her awful draw. Back there over the same course and distance today she again has the worst draw in 12 (the horse in 13 is a non-runner!) so again it won't be easy but she is progressing.

Sincerely Resdev makes his debut for the stable and has not been going too badly at home. This is not the greatest race and with Aidan qualified to ride him, he could get in the money at a decent each-way price. 

Both Marten and Perfect Pirate are back with us having been pointing with some succes in the interim. Marten is off the lower mark of the pair and should go well back hurdling again.
