Kamsinas finished in the middle in the Betfair Trophy at Newbury last time. Twice a winner earlier this season, he has to concede weight all round and is untried so far at 2m5f. Hoping rather than expecting.

Slipway returned after his 2022 summer break and won the Southern National at Fontwell, adding to earlier long-distance victories over fences and we had high hopes for him.  He hasn't shown anything like that form since though, but at this level, he could be dangerous even under top-weight.

Ballylinch ran quite well last time at Market Rasen after his midwinter break. I thought he could win again this season and the only doubt about today is the sharp track but he handles MR and Sedgefield so hopefully, wih Hughsie in the saddle, he can go very close.

The Jukebox Man has done nothing wrong this year. We're aware it's going to be tough but we'll try to get him into a good rhythm and see where we are. He deserves his place in the race and this step up in trip will suit him.

Night On Earth has been running consistently, usually in the money after fast starts. It might be a little difficult from out there in eight at Chelmsford, but he has the early speed to get to the front before the bend and we'll see how he goes from there.

Shakem Up'Arry ran well in this race last year and I think he's been in better form this time around. The ground will be in his favour and he'll take a bit of stopping in a race that will suit him down to the ground (no pun intended!).

Third in her Irish point, we expected better than her 5th place when favourite for her bumper on this track last time. The extra half-mile first time over hurdles could well bring her into this argument. Chances.

Politacus was useful in bumpers but hasn't matched that level in her three novice hurdles. Starting on 101 in a mares' handicap hurdle, that should be within her range based on that bumper form. Hopeful.

Famous Bridge is a grand horse, one that I'm not sure we've seen the best of yet. He has won a couple of nice handicaps this season but didn't go a yard on the faster ground at Doncaster. Then last time at Haydock he was still going well when others around him were starting to…

Plaisir Des Flos starts handicapping off a very low mark, but understandably so as three runs in novices haven't matched up to some decent work at home. Hopeful.

Two in this tough handicap chase. Chianti Classico comes here on the back of a great run at Kempton. He's a tough, honest horse who would not want any more rain. A novice with plenty of weight in an always competitive handicap, but a worthy candidate. Place chances or better?

Just One Surf shaped well enough in Irish points but has yet to make an impact over hurdles for us. Another with handicapping as his likely career route.

Raise Your Glass hasn't shown much so far but I think in time she will be grand. Waiting for a little sun on her back as the year wears on.

Good And Clever makes his racecourse debut. A big-framed Soldier Of Fortune gelding, the softer the ground the better for him. He will learn plenty for today’s run.

Well Dick has run twice over fences this season since making his belated return. He has been nowhere near the level of his decent hurdles form of last winter and needs to pull his finger out.

Nells Son is a high-class horse, albeit one that maybe saves a little for himself. If the race is run right - and it's only a small field so that's the worry - he will probably win comfortably. He's in good order and the rest is up to him.

Thursday's Child is a Harry Angel filly making her debut. Very much a watching brief this evening.

When I looked at this race in the programme book a while ago I thought it would be ideal for Polisud, but it's a little stronger than I expected. I'm still hopeful as he ran by far his best race for us over this CD last time. A little improvement from that would put him…
