Green Team last ran over 2m at Newcastle, continuing his sequence of poor performances. He has a much smaller chance of getting back to form than our other runner Haliphon.

I've been wanting to stretch out Beach Point to 10f for a while. The ground should be okay and I'm putting on cheek-pieces rather than a visor to change things up. Value each-way.

Lord P returns after a long time off the track. A mile on testing ground is likely to be too far for this sprinter around this galloping circuit.

Mighty Bandit began to show on the track what we had thought he could do with an excellent 2nd last time at Chepstow. He should be eligible for a handicap mark after today and while we're expecting a good run here, that should be when he comes into his own on the flat before reverting…

Haliphon was rated 93 when he began last year's campaign, and that mark has slipped alarmingly to 70. He had a break before his two latest runs, but neither has given much hope of a revival. It's hard to know what to say, but the ability is in there somewhere.

Giselles Defence, an impressive winner four runs back at Pontefract, gave notice of a return to form with a good 2nd to Siempre Arturo at Leicester a fortnight ago. Decent chances here in an open contest.

Sacchoandvanzetti was still not done with when falling three from home last time at Hereford. Prior to that, he was a creditable 3rd in an amateur riders' AW race over 10f at Chelmsford. He needs a confidence round after the fall but is in good form and can run into a place.

Chess Player had a productive time over fences last summer. He hasn't yet been in the same form in his two runs back but is on a nice mark and would only need to retrieve last summer's form to be a big factor off this mark.

Blenheim Star ran disappointingly at Bath, but I prefer to regard that as a one-off that we can put a line through. She won nicely on her previous start at Brighton and the runner-up went in next time. The one to beat.

Haymaker goes for the hat-trick in a better race than either Nottingham or Goodwood. The Mick Appleby three-year-old looks dangerous after his big run at Ascot and you can never rule out Rohaan. Place prospects.

Catuaba needs to pull his finger out. He has the ability but has run poorly, pulling up either side of a six-month break.

Almazhar Garde came back to winning form with quite an impressive performance at Bangor last time, ending a long losing run. The handicapper has reacted in kind, but there is still some leeway on his best old form. He has his chance again.  

Things didn't work out for Forgotten Treasure at Lingfield last weekend. She ran too freely and had nothing left from two furlongs out. This is slightly shorter and from her draw in five she should get plenty of cover. The 5lb off will help too.

Another double challenge. Police Academy did well when she transferred here on Oliver Sherwood's retirement last summer. She won three of her first four and has been allowed 2lb for her last effort when probably feeling the effects of her busy campaign. Ben gets on well with her and his 7lb claim will be helpful.…

Balkotic ran very well, first time back from a break, at Hexham last time. He'll be fitter today and could well enjoy his first look at Cartmel. Hopeful.

Parramount gets his first chance to try 1m4f on the flat having run all his qualifying races at 1m2f or less, His opening mark of 73 looks interesting, but it's a £10k to the winner race on Northumberland Plate day, so very competitive. We've been lucky to get Hollie to ride. If he could match…

Tailorman hinted at what may be to come in staying trips on the flat when 4th in his first handicap the other day. A close 4th after looking to have a winning chance a furlong down, he is sure to improve and if we run him back this quickly, he could go close.
