20/09/22 – 1st 15/8 – Sophosc – Ian Williams – Warwick

Sophosc won well first time over jumps at Plumpton when he needed to overcome having been stopped in his tracks by a faller two from home. The penalty will not be easy, but he's a tough sort who has clearly improved since on the level and is in the right race. Favourite's chance.

18/09/22 – 1st 9/5 – Special Buddy – Ben Pauling – Plumpton

Special Buddy won a couple of points in the summer and probably needed his first run back under Rules the other day. He is nicely weighted and should be ready to take advantage now.

17/09/22 – 2ns 18/1 – Celsius – Tom Clover – Newmarket

Celsius had a fibrillating heart the last day at Goodwood but he has been cleared by the vets and seems in great form. Six furlongs is a question mark but it's worth a try and the Rowley Mile course really suits him.

17/09/22 – 1st 5/1 – Stay Alert – Hughie Morrison – Newbury

Stay Alert has shown her best form on this track and if she could repeat anything like her excellent second to Nashwa earlier in the year she would go close against the colts today. If she runs well we have the fillies' race on Champions Day in mind for her. Hoping for a big run.

16/09/22 – 1st 7/2 – Crystallium – Tom Clover – Newbury

Crystallium is a very nice filly who won very well on debut. She has to gve weight all round but there aren't many options for her and she's ready to run. We'll learn something from today and hopefully she will emerge with credit.

15/09/22 – 2nd 15/2 – City Runner – Brian Meehan – Newcastle

City Runner was in the paddock last week at Southwell when the news came of The Queen's sad death and the meeting was abandoned. He had run a great race when third at York last time out and if in that form he will make them all go tonight.

15/09/22 – 2nd 6/1 – Sarsons Risk – Ian Williams – Newcastle

Sarsons Risk has started to live up to his juvenile promise with wins in small fields at Leicester and Newmarket. He should be ready for the step into a much more competitive handicap on his debut on all-weather. Hopeful but it is a more demanding assignment.

Dynamic Talent has been doing well this summer and is only up 1lb for his latest win at Lingfield. It is though a slight rise to a Class 4 handicap and while I expect his in-form jockey to get him into his required early lead, the run-in here is always a worry. Obvious each-way chance…

We were expecting a big run from Suanni last time at Southwell but he was never going on his first try on Tapeta. Hopefully it wasn't entirely the surface that made such a difference after a decent run the time before. If it was, we'll be in trouble as it's Tapeta here too!

13/09/22 – 1st 8/1 – Gentleman Valley – Ben Pauling – Uttoxeter

Gentleman Valley has not been an easy horse to have right. He tends to run up light and we've also had to operate on his wind, but I think he's over-priced today. His work has been good and the trip and track are fine. Hopeful.

If I Say has been runing moderately but does have ability. It's whether she chooses to show it - that's the problem.

Ted's Friend made a promising return to hurdles last time after some ordinary chase efforts. We hope he can run another solid race and challenge for a place.

Aviewtosea is another that has been running well all through the summer. There are a couple of in-form dangers but he remains on a fair mark and should go close at least.

It appears that the ground is still on the side of De Barley Basket. He ran well when third in a good race at Stratford after his wind-op and must have a big chance today.

06/09/22 – 2nd 8/1 – Jean Danjou – Brian Meehan – Goodwood

We like Jean Danjou who makes his belated debut today. He goes nicely and whatever he does here I'm confident he will be a decent horse further down the road.

06/09/22 – 1st 15/2 – Balkotic – Micky Hammond – Hexham

Balkotic never got to the front at Sedgefield, taken on from the outset before fading tamely away. Now with a first-time visor and ridden by Emma who does well on front-runners, I expect a better showing. Each-way hopes.
