For much of his latest race On Springs looked anything but a winner yet in the end he won it with something to spare. He remains in good form at home so he should go close again but there are one or two dangerous-looking and unexposed potential threats.

For whatever reason Dual Identity didn't run his race over the straight mile on Newcastle's all-weather. He had been running consistently before that on turf and now back at 10f has a decent chance. Good value each-way bet.

Sergeant Painter has made an excellent start to his chasiung career with two wins around Southwell. Inevitably he has gone up the ratings but hopefully by an amount that he can take in his stride. High hopes for the hat-trick.

Haliphon deserved to get his first win for us after some excellent efforts following his arrival from France this year although it took a stewards' inquiry to confirm it at York last time. Like Alfred Boucher his chance of winning will depend on how the cards fall for him in this tight-knit apprentice handicap but…

Midnight Jewel kept improving through last summer yet still looks reasonably handicapped. This is his comeback run after nine months off the track but he has been doing plenty at home and has each-way chances.

Effectively just the one to beat for No No Maestro who did very well in novice chases last season but has looked less effective back over hurdles. He is probably booked for second but sometimes front runners can get away in small fields so that is our main hope.

This is not the greatest of races and Aurora Papillon, who improved a little last time, goes up in trip today. If he maintains that last-time progress he could figure in the finish.

A hurdle winner in Ireland just over a year ago, Imperial Sachin's has been running over fences for Gordon Elliott with limited success this summer. We are adding a tongue-tie for this stable debut and returning him to hurdling in the hope that might bring an instant revival. Hopeful each-way.

Heresmax has even less pretensions of taking a hand in this than Burnage Boy. He has been off the track for a year having barely beaten a rival in four runs. His mark of 39 means he's 7lb wrong. From there it can only go one way but probably not today.

Carrigeen Kampala is by a proven jumps sire in Mahler and is out of a winning point mare. It is hard to understand why she made so little appeal at the sales last year - unsold at 4,500gns - but she shows promise and it would not be the biggest shock if she went very…

Montisfont is an Adaay half-sister to our useful filly Romsey who had her problems but ran to a decent level. We probably finished her from racing too soon. Eagle's Realm is handicapped on three modest runs in juvenile hurdles this time last year for Graeme and did better when transferred to us in staying handicaps on the flat. The respective handicap marks suggest he might have something in hand but he will need it to halt the favourite's impressive winning sequence over hurdles.

Two runners in  this handicap hurdle and after his bold effort when a 40/1 shot at Cartmel two weeks ago, Beyond The Clouds has to have his chance. It is perplexing that he carries the same 12st as he did there but the winner's prize is less than 7k against 21k in the Lakes. Strange,…

Jamacho had plenty of winning form around here but I think he needs a more galloping course nowadays and his latest win came at Worcester. On ability Beyond The Clouds ought to come out on top, but Jamacho is owned by Stratford Racecourse so it is understandable they would like him to run here.

Isaac Shelby was an impressive debut winner at Newbury and that form has been franked. He has progressed well since that debut and we are very hopeful he can stay unbeaten today.
